Autumn Days Are Here

                                             more sept 2012
Already!  The days are getting shorter, too. Awesome color everywhere to compensate for the knowing that summer is ended. There are just a few unfrosted flowers in the garden to be arranged in a late fall bouquet for the table. Nice surprise bonus bouquet. I almost missed it for enjoying the whole world becoming a colorful bouquet this fall.
                                                                                           Fall Picnic
We are packing in as many fall festivities as we can this fall. We had a spur of the moment picnic over by Elv’s woods job this week.  It was also a good time to give Benny his birthday tractor. He took to it like a duckling to water as we expected. We enjoyed grilled hamburgers, beans, pumpkin desert, and ice cream. Then we sat till dark by the lake around the fire.
In case I get charged with only blogging the ideal in our lives, be assured that we are all still working our jobs, fulfilling our roles to the best of our ability and working on whatever problems we encounter. There seem to be plenty of problem to encounter these days; so majoring on the good things sees us through. I am so glad that God created beautiful autumn.

Nebraska, Our Short Visit In a Few Pictures

2012-09-21 15.14.11Here we are just done shopping at Etcetra, the famous, favorite used shop in Seward, Nebraska.
2012-09-21 15.26.49Gwen took a shine to my purse and spent considerable time trying to see what was in there.
2012-09-22 11.32.40We girls went “garage sailing” and out for coffee at Panama Coffee. We didn’t see any sailing garages, but we found plenty of interesting things to browse through and buy.
2012-09-22 12.34.422012-09-22 12.34.52We came back to Amy’s new/in process house to find all these guys doing this and trying to convince us they were starving. So we put pizza in the oven for them.
2012-09-22 19.37.14Cook out the last thing Saturday night. Perfect fall weather and Gabe’s famous hamburgers on the grill. Jenny made gourmet baked beans, and baked squash that was so yummy, and potato salad. Plus being together with Matts and Gabes made things just about as close to perfect as we could get them.
2012-09-22 19.39.06 Just across the road the cows came up to the fence to see what we were doing. So we went over there to see what THEY were doing. Cows are kind of cute, I think.
My picture selection is very scanty.  No pictures of that lovely steak dinner with Gabes. We had nice visits here and there, too. Thanks you Matts for letting us sleep in your new house having our own quarters. I guess you won’t have an extra house for us to use every time we come. Smile

A Surprise Quiet

Recently Updated

It is hard to believe.  Here I am seated in Mom’s gracious home in Idaho after almost a whole week of busy-ness.  The surgery went well, the hospital stay is behind us, and we’re adjusting to life at home with Mom and her new prosthesis. She sits in a recliner most of the time.  So many odd things about this…at least for life with my Mom.

Here she is having to take it easy for four weeks, allowing her bones to heal around the new prosthesis.  Her usual hard work is in evidence everywhere I look while I keep house and tend her needs. The garden is still giving us fresh vege’s and potatoes. Her gardens and lawns are magazine worthy. Truly. I think about my own, poor, little,  woodsy acres at home and find comparison to be almost laughable.

She knows where everything is here in her beautiful home. I have only to run to her room and ask. Her organization is apparent everywhere.

But we have been so busy. She has to be attended for all her personal needs. This takes time for both of us.  She is strong and quick by nature, so it is taking all of her patience and concentration to remember to slow down and move about correctly so as not to dislocate the new “hip”.  We talk through this over and over.  We talk about a lot of other things, too.

Mom is a good conversationalist. She is not a gossip. We have solved the worlds problems together. And read scripture together. We have talked about our President and our nation our personal histories and the future.

You know, there is something very special about sitting in Mom’s room by the hour visiting or not visiting as we wish and just spending time together. I am so glad that my family at home was willing to support my coming.

Thursday Morning.

My brother, Norvan, and I had got up before breakfast this morning to get to the airport by 5:30 AM. What a good time to talk and to discover what really is going on in a siblings head, both of us grown with grown children. What was that about back there? The panorama in the rear view mirror bears discussing. I am so glad we can do this. It helps me understand him and me and where we are headed. I get a fresh perspective on our personal history and impetus for the rest of what’s up over the next hill.  Thanks Norv. And BTW, what you said this morning happens to count with me. I’ll never see it all quite the same and I  purpose to use this as a steppingstone in Relationships 101 from which I cannot seem to graduate.

My flight boards in an hour. I wonder if I can get this posted.

I spent time with sisters and friends this week while I helped Mom. Shilah made pizza sauce one day in Mom’s kitchen while I wandered back and forth between Mom’s bedroom and Shilah’s project. I was absolutely no good to Shilah for sure. Mom was sleepy that day so I guess I filled in the gap.  Busy all day though somehow. It’s amazing how many steps a nurse ends up taking in a day. Serving makes the time fly by so quickly, and if anyone deserves to be nursed/served it is my mom. So I delighted in this.

One day April and I biked over to Sharon’s store across country. I had to raise the seat and handle bars on Dad’s bike, Isn’t that weird? I cannot ride bike all scrunched up in a huddle with my head down. I hope he can find his own setting again. (Sorry, Dad. I put the tools back right where I found them, I promise.) April tucked her two little princesses into a cart that she hooked behind her bike and off we went across the valley. We had coffee together at the Bread Basket. April is 15 years younger than me and we are just now discovering that we are sisters. Moorings and affirmations come from this for me. I won’t speak for her, but I get a huge kick out of discovering that we think like each other.

I am looking forward to Wisconsin weather’s mood swings. Can’t wait to wear sweaters, have stove fires, and feel the crunch of leaves underfoot. I love home. I am pleased to feel like this because behind the scenes while I was in Idaho and even when we get home from Nebraska this weekend there were and are problems to be prayed  and pondered over. I guess this is life. Layers of pleasures and problems give depth to our lives.

Sunday Morning Post

DSC00001

This is to officially begin the postings of Fall 2012.  Cool weather has finally arrived in Northern Wisconsin. Now we are enjoying late flowers, small fires in the living room stove, and decorating in fall colors. A lot of things we enjoy come back into vogue this time of year, you might say.

More Ideal Living

                 DSC00001                                                   DSC00006

We spent Labor Day Weekend up at the cabin with Steve and Nell.  What a happy time it was!  We went up on Friday evening and got in considerably after dark.  Our friends Ben and Hannah had mowed the lawn, and made sure we had fresh drinking water in the cooler, besides making sure all was tidy and ready. Thank You, you dear people.

While Elv and Steve shuttled our luggage and food  and supplies in with the Jeep, Nell and I laid out cold cuts, cheese and snacks.  Soon we were settled in the living room, all thirteen lamps lit, and our snacks handy. There we sat and visited till yawning and sleepiness convinced us to find our beds.

Saturday we spent a lot of time hiking in the woods, taking pictures, and playing on the Shore of Lake Superior.

Returning in the afternoon to the cabin we played games around the table and did a lot of talking and laughing. The laughing was the best medicine.  I love being with Nell.  She is a lovely gracious lady AND she likes to laugh. Wonderful combination! She is easily one of my favorite people.

Later in the evening we dined on BBQ Pork Chops, potato salad, and whatever else looked good out of the refrigerator. Still talking and thoroughly enjoying our togetherness.  While Nell and I did dishes, Steve read a book by lamplight, and Elv went outside and built a campfire.  Then we sat out there under the “blue moon” till yawning time again. At eleven we had pie in the living room and finally off to bed.

I don’t remember the last time we did such a thorough job of doing absolutely nothing but rest, play, eat, fellowship, and visit for hours. It was truly one of our best cabin weekends. Thank You Nell and Steve. What a God we serve Who so generously supplies us with good things to enjoy!
